| wow... lj, it has been forever. lets have a go at some updates...
work has been going amazingly well. i still absolutely love my boys and i love the staff i have in my classroom, we just have a lot of fun. i had a performance review a few weeks ago and it went awesome. basically, i was told that the only thing i need to work on is being more vocal about my opinions and trust my instincts, because most of the time i am right on. score. i am a 'leader' in the classroom and my ideas and opinions are valued. needless to say, i was pretty happy with that :)
family stuff has been stressful since last summer. grandma passed away in the beginning of october, and its just been chaotic since then. who gets this, who does that. i have pretty much decided that if i never see my uncle again, it will be too soon, which makes me very sad. we've been slowly but surely going through everything in her house. it's been hard, but we're somehow getting through it. and that doesn't even begin to start talking about my cousin. josh moved into my grandmas house before she died, to help take care of her. he's still there. not working. not paying rent. racking up bills. i know he is going through a really rough time right now, and has had a pretty hard time of it the past few years, but he is also being very selfish. he's 23 and never been made responsible for anything. no one is really quite sure how to handle it, and my parents feel responsible for him because they are here- when really it should be HIS parents. they pretty much dumped him here with all of his problems, and now... who knows.
life in mount joy is going swimmingly.... i love having nikki around. she's like the little sister i never had. we've had 2 stressful days though. monday, on my way of work, i slid off the road and into a guardrail. luckily, i am perfectly fine- there was no oncoming traffic, thank god since i ended up in the other lane. my bumper and tail light need repaired, but all in all, i was lucky. then yesterday morning, nikki borrowed rachael's car to go to school and slid on some ice into another car... on rachael's birthday. once again, nikki was safe, but pretty shaken up by the whole situation. there was definitely more damage to rachael's poor bug than the suv it ran into. so after 2 mornings of accidents, i've had enough snow for this year. BRING ON SPRING!
upcoming plans for the next few months... nyc, pittsburgh, and cape may in april, dance show in may, dave matthews and jason mraz in july, hopefully a trip to maine and cj and pati's wedding (as a bridesmaid!) in august... i'm pretty stoked :)
thats all for now, i need to get to bed! hope all is well with everyone :) | |

| I thought I'd take a few moments to examine how well I did on my goals for myself for the past year. 1.) Eat Healthier- I feel like this one comes and goes. One month I do great, the next, awful. Overall, I think I've broadened my horizons and tried new (healthier) things- and actually enjoyed them. But when the junk food calls, I come right after. Must continue to work on this. 2.) Clean Out My Life- well, moving kind of forced me into cleaning out my life. I did a good job of getting rid of things as I packed, and even still, I currently have a pile to go to goodwill. I just have to get it there, lol. I am, however, still guilty as charged as a big, sloppy, mess when it comes to keeping my room cleaned. 3.) Save Save Save- check! I've got money in my savings that will hopefully be going towards a new car sometime within the next 6 months. 4.) Reading- so, I think I went a little above and beyond my goal of finishing the Harry Potter series, and then continuing to read something else. In fact, I finished Harry Potter early in the year (borrowing it from Jacki) and decided that I had to own it. So I bought each book, and as I bought each book, I re-read it. I also read several other books in the middle, so as not to be a complete Harry Potter nerd. Favorite other books read this year: PS I Love You, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Marley and Me. 5.) Scrapbooking- I finally finished my Maine scrapbook! woo hoo! I did not, however, start on a new scrapbook. I had other small side projects, including an engagement book for Pati and CJ, a Mothers Day gift for my mom, and of course, my Christmas cards. So maybe 2009 will be the year I tackle another scrapbook... So thats a recap of my goals, progresses, and failures... well not failures, I think I did pretty ok. On another one of these lazy Christmas Break days, I think I'll sitdown and look at the best parts of 2008 :) Hope everyone is having a great holiday! - Music:Britney Spears- Womanizer

| excerpt from Dennis Leary's book "Why We Suck" :
"There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can't compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks... to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don't (care) what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you - your kid is not autistic. He's just stupid. Or lazy. Or both." - Mood:pissed off

| If I have to hear one more time about how if McCain/Palin get elected, the families of special needs children will have a friend in the White House, I think I may vomit. I just finished watching the debate- and McCain went on and on about how he respects Palin for everything she does for special needs children. And how we need to do research on autism (yet we need to have a freeze on spending), and how she is a great supporter of autism research/treatment and parents of autistic children because of her own experiences....
WTF
Last I checked, her son has DOWN SYNDROME. That is not autism. That is not remotely close to autism. In fact, seeing as how the child was only born in 2008, it is extremely unlikely that he could be additionally diagnosed as autistic because he is still too young. Yes, it is possible to be diagnosed very young, but usually doctors do not diagnose THAT young.. Yes, it is possible to be both autistic and have down syndrome. But don't misrepresent the fact that she is a parent of an autistic child, because she is not. I guarantee that it is still extremely challenging to have a son with down syndrome. But they are two completely different developmental disabilities- and if John McCain doesn't know that, I sure as hell don't think that the families of special needs children have a friend in the White House. - Mood:annoyed
